about
In Vitro Fertilisation better known as IVF, is a type of assisted reproductive technology where in the sperm and egg are combined in a glass outside the body. The fertilised egg is then implanted into the women’s uterus. The success ratio of IVF on the first try is relatively higher in females under 30 in comparison to older females. Thus the age is higher this may need more embryo transfers. The entire cycle of IVF takes about 6 to 8 weeks prior to egg retrieval. During the first 2 weeks ovaries are stimulated to produce follicles, post which the insemination is performed. The blood pregnancy test is performed 12th day after the embryo transfer. If positive, patient is asked to repeat the blood test and ultrasound to ensure successful pregnancy by visualising foetal heart beat on 30th day after embryo transfer. A good antenatal care is required for a successful pregnancy. We have all the facility for that. In the past, physicians recommended transferring multiple embryos to improve the chances of fertility since knowing which embryo was viable was hard to determine. This sometimes led to multiple births. However, new advances like extended blastocyst culture and PGS/CCS have made this less necessary. In fact, due to the potential health risks related to multiple births, most fertility specialists advise against implanting more than one embryo at a time unless indicated. Instead, viable embryos can be frozen and stored for future use. Most IVF procedures are minimally invasive and are performed on an outpatient basis. While it is recommended that patients not over-exert themselves, most patients return to work the next day following an egg retrieval and can return to their regular exercise routine by their next menstrual cycle. Following an embryo transfer, most doctors recommend a few days of bed rest. Invitro Fertilization is the uniting of egg & sperm invitro (in the lab). Subsequently the embryos are transferred into the uterus through the cervix and pregnancy is allowed to begin. Female Factors : Male Factors : IVF treatment is most often successful, through it may take more than one try. Generally the live birth rate for IVF cycle is 40-45% for women under age 35 years (when an egg donor is used, however success rates remain high even at age 40, with a 75-80% success rate) If you and your partner have extra embryos that are not used during initial IVF procedures these embryos can be frozen and then transferred to your uterus at a later date. This procedure is now widely available throughout and has helped many couples facing infertility achieve pregnancy. Success rate of Frozen Embryo Transfer 75-80%. This also helps in the reduction of the cost of the subsequent IVF Cycles.
